Open-source / production capstone

A contribution to open source or a production system: from concept to a merged PR or a deployed product

Instructor to be announced

About the course

Students deliver a substantial independent contribution: either a serious contribution to an open-source AI project (a merged PR in PyTorch, Hugging Face, vLLM, etc.), or a production deployment of their own AI product with real users. The capstone tests the ability to work in an unfamiliar codebase, follow community standards, and carry a task through to a public result.

What you'll learn

Make a documented contribution to an open-source AI project (merged PR), or deploy a product with real users
Handle code review from external maintainers or users and iterate on their feedback
Produce a technical writeup on the architectural decisions made

Key topics

Navigating a large open-source codebase
Working with issue trackers, code review, and maintainer feedback
Documenting and testing a contribution
Production deployment: monitoring, rollback, incident response
Public communication: writeup, blog post, release notes
